French Military Hospital Pajamas (1940s–1950s)

This pajama set, shown in the photograph, was used in French military hospitals during the 1940s to 1950s.
It was issued to soldiers and convalescents, designed with an emphasis on functionality and comfort rather than ornamentation.

The design features a small open collar with a front placket fastened by four buttons.
One chest pocket and two waist pockets provide practical storage, while the box-shaped silhouette offers a relaxed fit that does not constrict the wearer’s body.

The fabric is made from soft cotton or flannel, combining a pleasant texture with warmth and comfort.
Even under the harsh conditions of wartime, this garment reflects the consideration given to comfort and hygiene—making it a valuable example of medical clothing used by the military at the time.

The brushed striped fabric and the cohesive balance between the top and bottom create a beautiful appearance, which I would like to use as inspiration for fabric development and design in a future project.
